Creative Joy

Document everyday with creativity and joy.

This is my current life motto.
I love to create, inspire, and share.
Adding a piece of art to my everyday life brings me tremendous amounts of comfort and joy.
I may not know where my creative path may take me but I am grateful for the healing pleasures it gives me on a daily basis.

Drawing, coloring, writing, & even adding sparkles to my art planner.
I let my allotted time and mood choose my creative activity for the day.
I don't plan or push my creative actions.
I simply let them flow and unload onto paper as I feel inspired.
However, this being said, I am inspired a lot.
Finding time is far more difficult than inspiration.

Within just about any given day, there is plenty of opportunity to enjoy a creative lifestyle. It make take a bit of creativity and multitasking just to make it work, but it is well worth it.

Over this past year I have spent nearly everyday with pen, pencil, and paper.
I now have a very wonderful collection of journals, art journals, sketchbooks, and even pretty planners to look through. They are full of inspiring heartfelt moments from each and everyday.
Love spilled directly onto paper.

I encourage anyone with even the smallest amount of curiosity to take the creative jump.
One little notebook to fill with all your dreams; creates wonderful memories to smile and look through in the future.

Here's a little freebie to release you creativity on.

Documenting Your Creative Passions In An Art Journal Scrapbook

It took so much courage to overcome the fear of having an art book that I added color to. Something about giving up the ability to erase my mistakes just stopped me in my tracks. I've realized that the imperfections of a page can make it special. You learn from trying and if you don't jump you limit your possibilities. The joy that comes from having a little journal where you can flip through the pages, by far overrides the blemishes.

The more pages I complete in my little journal, the more inspired I am to continue to add to it. Everyday I feel the need to just spend a little time sketching, painting, or writing. To spill my thoughts and emotions onto the pages.  Determined not to let my days crumble at my feet just to be left behind as a blank and empty spot, that I will likely forget as time passes by.

This has become my favorite way of documenting my everyday. Each page holds joyful memories and intense passion. A splendid freedom of just letting go and enjoying the moment...

Here's a little freebie to release you creativity on.

Mixed Media Art Journal Girl

Water based media.
Markers, pencils, crayons, and watercolors.
I experimented with all of them for this layout.
All brand new media for me.
Little to no experience with these tools; and with no real research on how to best use them, I just jumped in and decided to create a spread.
It was awesome.
Freedom to just play; no rules, no worries.
I highly recommend experimenting with new toys and just enjoy the process of creating art from your heart.

Just Dance

My creativity has been in over drive lately.
Which is kinda funny since I haven't posted art in a little while.

Just seems like my head is completely spilling over with ideas and it's all I can do to get them on paper. I truly have several dozen half finished pieces of work. Everything from line art, that will hopefully be digital stamps soon; to art journal pages that are either full of sketches or full of paint.

I made myself sit down this week and made a little inventory of what I'm working on. Before I start too many more projects I want to finish what I started. (or at least a little bit of what I've started)

I choose to first finish an illustration that I started in April.
I love this cuddlebug's pose. A little reworking of the dress and she became a super fun little piece of art.

Sweet Violet Cuddlebug

It's been a long and trying week, but somehow I finally feel like I came out on top.

Last night was a close call for a bit of a superwoman breakdown.
At 1am I'm rushing into a 24hr animal emergency room begging the poor girl behind the desk to find me a doctor who treated rats... looking back now; her face was quite priceless.
Long story short; when male rats get into a squabble it's bad. Really bad, and stitches are likely. Everything worked out fine. My little furbaby is all fixed and has been spoiled all day. I think he quite likes laying on my drawing desk and getting hand fed little veges one at a time. Did I say spoiled?

He hasn't move to terribly much but he seemed to enjoy watching me draw and color my latest digi. He'd do his cute purr and his eyes would boggle when I'd talk to him. Every now and then, he'd do a long stretch toward me and give my hand a dozen or so kisses.  It's really been sweet.

Sad as the entire experience was, bonding with him today has just seemed to make all of the tough moments from the week evaporate. They really didn't have as much weight as I thought they did in the moment. He brought quite a bit of peace to my heart and mind. Big blessing can come in small packages.

Free Spirit Calista

There's something special about this Cuddlebug.
Her stance is just adorable; but you can also see a bit of sassy strength in it too.
I love that.
I'm cute, strong, and can achieve anything attitude.

I took special care while coloring her.
I wanted her just perfect for an art journal layout I have in mind. I can't wait to fully complete a set of pages for her.

Easter Sweetheart

I have two little bunnies that have made a home in my backyard.
They've been my neighbors since last summer.
I worried about them all winter, and insisted to my hubby that we buy rabbit food to keep them fed when it was icy out. (we fed the squirrels and the birds too, didn't want anybody to go hungry :) Apparently they have become accustomed to us now.

My husband decided late in the afternoon that he wanted to smoke a turkey. So, now it's dark. The smoker is still cooking and we have a big spotlight focused on it so we can keep and eye on how it's cooking. About a foot away from the smoker we have our two bunnies stretched out on the grass enjoying the heat. They seemed to careless about the light. You might think that walking outside would send them running...nope they didn't even look at us. Walking over to the smoker didn't even scare them. One of the little fuzzies actually started giving himself a bath.

Guess I have two new outdoor pets.
I told my husband we should buy a little hutch for them to sleep in.
Just a little opened door box of some sort.
Where they can go in and out as they please.
Just a safe place from birds and the elements.
Pretty sure he thinks I'm nuts, but he didn't protest.

Princess Digital Stamp

It's beautiful and sunny.
I really should spend the day outside.
Maybe a nice long walk followed by sitting in the backyard with the little and the pups.
Make some lunch on the grill and have a picnic.
Explore the yard and determine how I want to garden this year.

So many choices...

Then there is always the never ending to-do list.
Chores, running to the store, car maintenance, and of coarse there's a box of hair dye looming in my closet reminding me that my hair needs a little love. That however, would require me talking my family into be self entertained for maybe an hour while I hide in the bathroom...lol yeah that's probably not going to happen.

All the options in the world to choose from and you know what I really feel like doing?
Camping out on the couch and coloring with a movie marathon on the tv.
My son's been on a Spongebob kick.
My husband on a Sons of Anarchy one.
I'm feeling very out numbered by the boys.
I'm considering popping Twilight in the dvd player and completely taking over the living room for a bit. I'll share the room but it's girl tv time.

I don't know how well that will actually work, but luckily I'm prepared to at least color.
I inked an older illustration recently and it's ready to go.
So if anyone else out there is having a creativity day too; here's a new digi for you.

You've Got My Heart

I've been wanting to redraw a few of my older Cuties for quite some time.
I feel like I've learned so much in the past few years and I want to breathe new life into some of my favorite originals. Bigger doe like eyes, fluffier hair, more movement in clothing...

A previous Valentine's Cutie, You've Got My Heart, was the perfect place to start with the holiday right around the corner. I always loved this Cuddlebug, but I remember when first creating her I ran out of room on my paper which left her cropped. I don't mind a cropped image but this time around I wanted a full image and I wanted all the other features that I listed above too.

Creative Mary Beth Digital Stamp

I literally walked around today with a purse full of Copics.
I was determined to get my latest illustration colored.
At one point I'm sitting in Starbucks parking lot coloring.
Every time I had a few extra minutes, I'd start digging around for markers.

It wasn't my usual relaxing way to create, but it got things done.
Sometimes you have to be creative with the time you have.

I think it all worked out well. This little Cuddlebug is adorable.
She's cute with a fun style and looks like she's ready to create.

The New Creative Style of Personal Planners

Personal planners have become a new style playground.
They are not simply for keeping track of your appointments anymore.
Day books are no longer a boring list of chores.

They have inspired people to create a new form of art and have become an extremely popular new crafting endeavor. Most refer to this new hobby as filofaxing, however I enjoy calling mine my art planner. There is still plenty of scheduling and lists, but every page has become a canvas to decorate.
Paper crafting, scrapbooking, coloring, painting, drawing, and so many forms of media now cover the daily pages. They've become a bit like a smash book style junk journal. Collecting personal pieces of cards, mail, journaling, and pictures over time.
Little mini albums that contain a little of your day and a bit of your heart.
A quick and easy artistic book for you everyday memories.

This, of coarse, was a bandwagon I had to jump on.
Creating a little treasure book, yes!
Full of my days, art, thoughts, hopes and ideas.
A colorful and fun way to preserve and an entire year.
Yes!
Pink Kikki-k planner

Just a few goodies inside the pockets.

It would be impossible for me not to add a few creative touches to my everyday paper inside my Art Planner. After a bit of consideration I decided I needed custom printable pages.

I have created a Blog Planner Printable that is free for anyone to use in their personal Art Planners.
If you are new to my blog, please read my Angel Policy tab about the use of my artwork.

My hope is that this will be one of many future Art Planner Printables.

Sweetheart Anya Digital Image

Every time I draw a new Cuddlebug, I think wow this one is so much better than my last.
This one is such an improvement. This one is my new favorite.
It seems that I always feel this way, it's comical really.

My latest illustration is, of coarse, my favorite.
I love that she started as nothing more than a doodle.
I had no intentions of an adorable beauty.
Simply scribbles that started to form an amazing girl.

Cute Coraline Digi

I've been putting all my creative ability into my art journal lately. I find it so refreshing to take the next step and combine all the media together. It truly is a book of experimentation. I have at least half a dozen layouts in my head just waiting for me to have a little extra time to put them on paper.

Currently I'm about halfway through my furbabies page set. I feel it's one of my best pieces to date. Even though I love my fairy rat mori cuddlebug on the page; I thought it might be a little more veritable if I edited the fairy out. Which was much harder to do than I thought it would be, but a little hard work paid off.

Frills by Popular Demand

It's funny; when I drew Mori Girl, I had this unusual attachment to my undecided works. I had a specific Cuddlebug in my head that I wanted to achieve, but I loved my original first attempts. I didn't want to lose them forever when I erased. They weren't exactly what I was working toward but I still found them beautiful, so I scanned each working and saved a copy for later inspiration.

Apparently, this was a good decision.

I got many responses telling me how much the first dress and hair were loved. She was so popular that I just couldn't possibility sit back and do nothing. Truth be told, I was thrilled that so many people loved a rough sketch. One hundred percent made my day. I wanted to spread the joy immediately; so I reworked her a bit, inked her out, and made a new digi.
